WELCOME!

Welcome to the Jittery Moose website!

Fall's officially here, but it's starting to feel more and more like winter as the days get shorter and there's frost on the windshield in the morning!  The Holiday Season isn't too far away, so please check out all the new products available in the Jittery Moose Online Shop!  We've expanded our line of Octavia Teas, have picked up some wonderful new products from Happy Tails, and have contracted with a great new importer to bring you some treats from "The Old Sod" (Ireland).  Check out the wonderful Cadbury Chocolates (you'll taste the difference immediately), Jacob's Jaffa Cakes, Tea Biscuits, Shortbread, and more!  New for the season -- put it all together in a gift basket and send the good stuff Fed-Ex anywhere in the country.  Oh, and anything you put in the basket is 20% off!  And, yes, since the books are already 20% off for the season, they'll be 40% off in the basket.  Great savings for you, and great gifts for the ones you love.

Moose Sightings:  Visit us in Casper at the Wyoming Women's Expo on Oct 3-4, and we'll also be at the Friends of the Needy Bazaar in Rawlins on November 2nd.  The Moose (and family) will be traveling to "The Old Sod" in November, and hope to bring back some wonderful new products for our ever-expanding lines (think Inishmore and The Arans.... you get the idea!).  Coffee mugs, magnets, mouse pads, and other branded swag are available through Cafe Press.

You're probably wondering.... why JITTERY MOOSE?

I blame my husband .... really.... It all started back in 2003 when we both worked for the National Park Service at Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. My husband was the archaeologist for the Kennecott Mines National Historical Landmark, and I was the Park's curator. We were headed out to Kennecott and had stopped in Chitina at a rest area--the last chance to really get out and stretch our legs before bumping the 60-odd miles down the McCarthy Road toward Kennecott. It was a bright, summer's day, and Chitina was teeming with tourists and dipnetters (more on that in the blog!). We were about to get out of the truck when, suddenly, a young moose burst through the willows! Widely wild-eyed, it stood there--possibly shocked that it was suddenly out in the open. The tourists got their cameras and began following the moose around. Those of us who knew a little better just stayed in our trucks and watched--remembering the all-too-true words of cartoonist Chad Carpenter (Tundra Comics):  Alaska: Step Out of the Bus and Into the Food Chain..... The moose was obviously nervous, and the clicking cameras didn't help--fur raised, it began to spider-jump--straight up and down away from the tourists. My husband looked at me and said, "Wow--that's one jittery moose." Then, after a bit of silence he smiled and said, "hey--that would be a great name for your coffee shop when you finally open one!"

So, here we are -- 5 years later -- Welcome to the Jittery Moose, Fine Coffees & Teas, Unique Treats & Kitsch! Brewed to Fuel Your Wild Life!

Kennecott Mines National Historical Landmark is truly a gem and a must-see for any visitor to Alaska! Click on the picture above for a link to the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve's Kennecott page!

These days, some not-so-jittery-moose are frequent visitors to our ridge top house in Fairbanks, Alaska. Click on the moose to go to the Jittery Moose Weather Underground blog and read more about them!
